After ordination, Father Boyle served as assistant pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Rochester from 1966-70. In 1970, he became assistant pastor at St. John of Rochester Parish. "He was a very conscientious pastor, and was well-received by his parishioners. They liked him," remarked Father William Michatek, who served as assistant pastor at St. John of Rochester from 1975-81.

Father Michatek and Father Boyle were seminary classmates and had remained close friends for more than 50 years, even taking several trips abroad together.

"He always kept in touch, and we enjoyed each other's company over the years. I'm going to miss him," Father Michatek said.

Father Boyle reached senior status in 2007 and moved to St. Joseph Parish in Penfield before returning to St. John of Rochester, this time to assist with weekend Masses. Father Boyle had most recently resided at St. Ann's Community.
